As you are aware, President Bush has requested that $67.4 million be appropriated to drug courts for fiscal year 2005 (FY 05). Despite a similar request, in FY ’04, funding for drug courts was sharply reduced. While the House has recommended that $50 million be appropriated to drug courts through H.R. 4754, the drug court field cannot afford another reduction. And, although additional funding will greatly increase the scope and breadth of the drug court field, without your assistance, this will not happen.
Please sign and fax the attached, customized letters (Click here for the letter)requesting support for a $67.4 million allocation for drug courts to the members of the Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Subcommittees on Appropriations of the Senate. For your reference, I also have attached the contact information for each of the Members on this committee to this alert.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! The Senate is to begin consideration any day.
It is also imperative that you fax a copy of your letter to Jennifer Columbel, NADCP Legislative Director, at 703-575-9402.
